Get In On The Count
So where are we now on God’s calendar?
In this season, The Lord has called us to “count the omer."
What is an omer you ask…? An "omer" is simply a sheaf of grain.
So how and why do we count it? Here’s some background…
In Leviticus 23, The Lord commanded the Israelites to present an offering on
First Fruits. This offering was an omer of the first crop of the season, barley.
He then commanded them to count 50 days from First Fruits,
while the next crop, wheat, was ripening.
When they arrived at the 50th day, known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost,
they would then present an omer of wheat, as He commanded.
So, right now we are in between two harvests.
But we are not to sit around and do nothing. We are called to "count the omer”.
We may not have a physical field of wheat in our backyard,
But the Lord does have a harvest for each of us that is ripening.
We may not even know what it is, but He does and He wants us to be ready for it.
So yes, even now, we are called to count 50 days
